The Yemen Guide | Ibb Governorate — the Green Brigade

Ibb

Ibb, the Green Brigade of Yemen, is distinguished by unique features: Jibla, city of Queen Arwa al-Sulayhi who ruled with justice; Maytam, valley of seasonal waterfalls descending from mountain peaks; and Samara, fortress of strongholds and high passes. At the heart of this governorate stands Samara Fortress guarding the pass, and Dar al-Izz rises as a witness to Sulayhid architecture.

About Ibb Governorate

A lush governorate in the central highlands of Yemen, bearing an ancient heritage in Jibla where Queen Arwa ruled, and breathtaking natural scenes in Wadi Maytam with its descending waterfalls, as well as Naqil Samara which holds Samara Fortress. The Dar al-Izz palace in Jibla is a unique example of Sulayhid architecture, built as the seat of the Sulayhid state in the eleventh century CE, displaying the brilliance of Yemeni architectural art of that age.
