Saada stands in the far north of Yemen, city of the ancient mud-brick wall, land of impregnable mountains and fertile valleys. Its terrain varies between the mountains of Jabal Shada al-Ala (the highest peak in western Arabia) and fertile plains such as Ghamr, and it is distinguished by unique architectural heritage in its walled old city.
Saada lies in the far north-west of Yemen and is among the most ancient and authentic Yemeni cities, with roots going back to pre-Islamic times. It is famous for its walled old city with its ancient mud-brick wall and historic gates, and for unique architectural heritage of multi-storey mud-brick houses and historic mosques. Its terrain varies between the mountains of Jabal Shada al-Ala, the highest peak in western Arabia, and fertile plains such as Ghamr and its valleys, rich in agriculture, and it held an important position on the ancient caravan routes linking Yemen to northern Arabia.
