Scientific and cultural value
The National Museum of Aden is one of the oldest and most important museums in Yemen. It was founded in a building that once served as a palace for the Kathiri sultans in Crater, then converted into a museum in the 1960s. It houses thousands of artefacts summarising the history of Yemen and the civilisations that succeeded one another from the Stone Ages through the late Islamic era, with special focus on the history and heritage of southern Yemen in general and Aden Governorate in particular.
