Geography and natural features
The valley lies in the Bani Hammad area within Taiz’s south-western highlands, named for its dense morning and evening mist. It extends across several areas, part of the network of valleys feeding agricultural lands, famous for water flowing in the rainy seasons, abundant fruit trees and humid air.
Agriculture and economic importance
The valley is among the most important agricultural areas of Taiz, with fertile soil and fresh water enabling diverse crops including high-quality Yemeni coffee, maize, okra, courgette, tomato, potato and varied vegetables and fruits. It is also famous for its high-quality local cheese.
Weekly souq and social activity
A popular souq is held in the valley every Sunday, gathering farmers and traders from neighbouring areas to sell agricultural, animal and handmade products, making it an important social and commercial centre.
Tourism and leisure activities
The valley is a local tourist destination; visitors come to escape the city’s heat and enjoy fresh air and natural scenery, especially beside the green watercourses and orchards, serving as a vital breathing space for Taiz residents.
Current environmental challenges
Despite its historical and agricultural importance, the valley faces environmental challenges including noticeable drought in some periods due to climate change and declining rainfall, affecting water flow and groundwater wells.
